Marion sits at the foot of the Blue Ridge with a Main Street of historic buildings and the county courthouse, and it works mainly as a base camp. Lake James, Mount Mitchell and Linville Gorge are all within reach on the same trip.
It is the practical, unfussy side of the mountains, and prices reflect that.
