Brevard is surrounded on three sides by protected forest, which is why people come. Transylvania County holds around 250 waterfalls, one of the highest concentrations anywhere in the country, and a good number of them need no hike at all.
Downtown is an All American Main Street of independent shops and restaurants, the town is known as the Cycling Capital of the South, and it has a famous population of white squirrels with a festival named after them each May.
